The God of Wealth and War, also known as "Marshal Xuantan," is officially called the Righteous Marshal Zhao of the Xuantan from the Shangqing Ruyi Golden Wheel Courtyard. He is popularly known as the God of Wealth and War. Legend has it that the God of Wealth and War's surname was Zhao, his given name was Lang, and his courtesy name was Gongming. Some also refer to him as Zhao Xuantan or Zhao Guangming. "Xuantan" refers to the ritual altar in Taoism, signifying a guardian deity. He is one of the Thirty-six Generals and the Four Great Guardian Marshals of Taoism, skilled in using an iron whip, and rides a black tiger.
It is rumored that he is the head of the Five Roads of Wealth Gods. According to the complete title in "Investiture of the Gods," he is the True Lord of the Golden Dragon, As-You-Wish, orthodox Dragon-Tiger Xuan壇. Because he commands the four deities: "Heavenly Lord of Advancing Treasures" Xiao Sheng, "Heavenly Lord of Accumulating Treasures" Cao Bao, "Messenger of Welcoming Wealth" Chen Jiugong, and "Immortal Official of Lucrative Deals" Yao Shaosi, who specialize in welcoming auspiciousness, bestowing blessings, and commercial trade, he became the God of Wealth.
The Golden Ring Wu Cai Gong's spiritual essence originates from the ancestral temple, Bei Gang Wu De Gong. The God of Wealth Sutra states, "The charitable are born, the devout are blessed." By practicing generosity and kindness, boundless powers of good fortune will gather. Consequently, the God of Wealth incense burner in the Golden Ring is inscribed with four large characters: 'The Charitable Are Born,' to educate believers.
