Golden Ring Fortune Slip

Seventh Song: [Earth-Water Division, Sun Bin Learns His Art]

Cast aside evil thoughts and open the righteous path.

Who would have thought that after all disasters, calamities would come again.

As firm as a boulder, diligently polished.

Why worry about traitors stirring up old trouble?

  • Love: Beware of conflicts and hurt caused by emotions; it will be difficult to achieve success again.
  • Family fortune: Frequent discord within the family, requiring careful handling. Turn danger into safety.
  • Pregnancy: Joy mixed with sorrow. Possibly unease or infertility.
  • Children: A great sign of success.
  • Turnover: Hopeless. Look elsewhere.
  • Buying and selling: There are obstacles, not very smooth. Transactions on days of the Tiger, Horse, and Dog can be successful.
  • Illness: Non-terminal. If the illness persists for a long time, there is a chance of recovery.
  • Lost: Stolen.
  • Lawsuit: A benefactor brings good fortune, it is not advisable to retreat. Others' lack of spirit brings worry and danger, but there will ultimately be profit. However, it forms a head-on collision, often due to the situation.
  • Business: Independence is hopeless, but can be achieved with support.
  • Academics: Very diligent, but not ideal. Keep working hard, and you will achieve success.
Hexagram interpretation:
"Shi" means army. The second line of this hexagram is "yang" in nature. It leads five "yin" lines. The upper trigram is "Kun," which also means earth, and the lower trigram "Kan" means water. Normally, "water" resides in "earth," and all things on earth are nourished and develop. However, in this hexagram, it is the opposite: earth is above and water is below. Therefore, the two cannot interact harmoniously. This can be compared to human affairs in society, where unworthy individuals are in power and the virtuous are relegated to subordinate positions; it can also be said that evil people are powerful and wealthy, while good people are poor and distressed, living in humble circumstances. This indicates that societal order will inevitably be disrupted. Therefore, it is named "Shi Hexagram," symbolizing social unrest or conflict.

Annotation

Vernacular

Sun Bin and Pang Juan were both students of Master Guiguzi. Sun Bin was kind-hearted, while Pang Juan was narrow-minded and used all his cunning to frame him, leading to a series of misfortunes. As long as one has confidence and diligently hones their skills, they need not fear malicious individuals stirring up trouble.

Fortune telling by lot

Pang Juan was appointed Grand Marshal of the Wei state, and Sun Bin served as a strategic advisor. Sun Bin's talent surpassed Pang Juan's, which led to the disaster of being sentenced to mutilation [cut off one's kneecaps]. The viciousness of human hearts can be seen from this. However, Heaven takes pity on the loyal and good. Later, he was secretly rescued by a Qi envoy and established a brilliant career for the Qi state. This is a divination of hardship first, then happiness. When making friends on life's journey, one must be careful. Seeking wealth: There is moonlight, but a dark moon is like floating clouds. Asking about fame: Three years of learning good, one day of learning evil. If you understand this principle, you will achieve success in your studies. Asking about marriage: Difficult to succeed; if successful, it will end well. "Descendants" are prosperous, the sun and moon bestow blessings, and any illness can be cured. The presence of two "officials and ghosts" in the divination indicates that there is more than one ailment. If the "self" element is overcome, it is advisable to seek a more skilled physician. In spring, prosperity of "descendants" ensures safety. This divination drawn on a "Wu" day implies a more severe illness. A "Yin" day drawing suggests that the condition will improve with assistance.
