Hexagram interpretation:
"The hexagram representing obstruction means stagnation and lack of progress. This hexagram is the complete opposite of the "Heaven and Earth Unite" hexagram that preceded it. The "Heaven" hexagram represents the sky, with its yang energy above and rising. The "Earth" hexagram represents the ground, with its yin energy descending. This signifies the separation and lack of flow between the yin and yang energies of heaven and earth. If we compare this to human affairs in society, the upper trigram, Heaven, represents strength, while the lower trigram, Earth, represents gentleness. This means that those in power are arrogant and do not care for their subordinates, while those below are cowardly and incompetent. The wills of those above and below are not united. On one hand, the gentleman represented by the Heaven trigram is in the outer trigram, signifying being rejected or excluded. The villain represented by the Earth trigram is in the inner trigram, holding power. Consequently, the Way cannot be practiced (stagnation and lack of progress), and the world falls into chaos. Therefore, it is named the "Obstruction" hexagram."

Interpretation of fortune stick person

Liu Bang (256 BC – June 1, 195 BC), the first emperor in Chinese history to rise from commoner status, courtesy name Ji, was the founding emperor of the Western Han Dynasty. His temple name was Taizu and his posthumous name was Gao Huangdi. Therefore, he is historically known as Han Taizu Gao Huangdi, Han Taizu, Han Gaozu, or Han Gao Di. He was of commoner origin. When he raised an army to rebel against Qin, he was known as the Duke of Pei. After the fall of Qin, Xiang Yu enfeoffed him as the King of Han.

Annotation

Three feet of radiance waved in his hand: Liu Bang's sword glinted with golden light, and with a flash, it cut the white python in two. Heaven does not keep the Qin, it is inevitable: Qin Shi Huang was tyrannical and unjust, and Heaven intended for his demise, which could not be defied. A swipe of the Hong Canal, an empty amulet: A jue is a semi-circular pendant with a notch, often given as a token of severance in ancient times. When the Chu and Han armies were locked in a stalemate at Guangwu, both sides signed a peace treaty; the Hong Canal would serve as the boundary, with the east belonging to Chu and the west to Han. Xiang Wang was defeated, and Chu had nowhere to return: The Hegemon-King of Western Chu, Xiang Yu, was routed and his army scattered. The mighty hegemon-king finally took his own life by the Wujiang River.

Vernacular

When Liu Bang was escorting prisoners to Lishan for labor, he passed through Xianyang. On the way, a large white python appeared. Liu Bang's sword gleamed with golden light. Where the sword passed, it cut the white python in two. Liu Bang was truly the destined emperor, the son of the Red Emperor, descended to the mortal world. Heaven intended to destroy the Qin Dynasty and establish the Han Dynasty. The Chu-Han Contention eventually drew a boundary along a moat in Guangwu, with the east belonging to Chu and the west to Han. The Hegemon-King of Western Chu, Xiang Yu, was utterly defeated and, the mighty hegemon, eventually committed suicide by the banks of the Wu River.

Fortune telling by lot

The story of Liu Bang slaying the serpent, the white serpent dared to block the path, leaving only a dead end. Liu Bang gained the throne in a short period, but this also sowed the seeds for Wang Mang's usurpation of the Han Dynasty later on. This divination advises people not to take drastic actions when their own conditions, abilities, and status are insufficient, to avoid harm. It is advisable to remain hidden, retreat, and protect oneself while waiting for an opportunity! It is best to be cautious in all matters and not act rashly. Darkness will not last forever; when extremes turn, fortune will gradually improve.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram, named "Pi," meaning obstruction, reveals the principles of how to cope and protect oneself when things are in a state of obstruction due to the lack of communication between upper and lower levels and the disharmony between yin and yang. It also illustrates the natural law of things developing from extreme obstruction to extreme prosperity.
