Hexagram interpretation:
"Bō" means "to cut." It refers to the meaning of cutting or scraping with a knife. In terms of the hexagram's form: the yin lines move from bottom to top, forming a shape that cuts through both sides. Only at the very top is there a single yang line blocking it. Furthermore, the upper trigram, "Gèn," represents "mountain"; the lower trigram, "Kūn," represents "earth." This means that whenever it rains, the soil on the mountain is washed away and flattened into the ground. Therefore, it is named "Bō Guà" (the Stripping hexagram).

Interpretation of fortune stick person

Hu Kui's "Fen Zhuang Lou," Chapter 25, Luo Kun falls ill with the plague, Hu Kui visits the prison to sell heads, characters in Hu Kui's story.

Annotation

Hu Kui planned to act because his friend Luo Kun suffered a disaster. Why should Xi Ci refuse? Lim Yi means prison. Why should he care if the prison is heavily guarded? He fears no sacrifice for friendship, but for what reason? A master physician can turn dying patients back to life.

Vernacular

Hu Kui devised a plan to help his friend Luo Kun escape imprisonment, so why should he care if the prison had a tight guard? The guards of the yamen, the Mao couple, were killed at the same time. Hu Kui was arrested and imprisoned for selling heads, but he does not fear sacrifice for his friend. What was the reason for this? Zhang Yong miraculously brought the dying Luo Kun back to life.

Fortune telling by lot

The loyal minister's family was exterminated, and Luo Kun narrowly escaped, only to be trapped and imprisoned, barely clinging to life. Fortunately, his friend Hu Kui devised a rescue plan, enabling him to escape the dangerous situation. When one's fortune declines, it is advisable to retreat and ensure personal safety, waiting for better times. Rushing into action will lead to failure. Concerning all matters: after the summer solstice, good fortune will arrive with the moonlight. For academic success: studies will fluctuate, but with the moonlight's blessings, a good outcome is foreseeable. For seeking offspring: good fortune with moonlight, or between the eleventh and nineteenth day of the month. For pregnancy: a boy will be born. [Symbol: Osmanthus]. For major life events: illness is like a golden paulownia, a lingering sickness that cannot be easily cured. For the elderly, recovery is difficult and recurring. For the young, once they pass fifteen, there will be no fear.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram, named "Bō" (Stripping/Decay), signifies peeling away and reveals a time when yin is dominant and yang is weak, villains are in power, and noble individuals are in distress. It teaches the principle of maintaining righteousness and guarding against misfortune to await a better future. Simultaneously, it reveals the objective law that when things reach their extreme point of decay, they will begin to recover, and unfavorable situations will eventually transform. The hexagram's structure, with yin lines from the first to the fifth爻, shows five yin forces encroaching upon one yang, extending to a situation where yin and gentle individuals (or villains) are flourishing, eroding the righteous path of noble individuals, or where the female oppresses the male. Divining this hexagram is most likely to indicate acute illness or accidental bloodshed. Be mentally prepared for matters concerning career, relationships, and marriage, as previous efforts may need to be redone.
