The prophet who abandons his country will not live long.

When wind and tiger meet, and clouds and dragon gather,

Support the nation and uphold the eternal principles.

Hexagram interpretation:
"Kun" is "earth" and also represents gentleness. This hexagram is the complete opposite of the Qian hexagram preceding it: all six lines, from the first to the sixth, are "yin". While "yang" represents strength and robustness, "yin" represents harmony and obedience. "Qian" represents heaven, and "Kun" represents "earth". The "earth" of Kun receives the "original qi" given by "heaven" and all things grow. For "humans": "Qian" represents the father or husband, and Kun represents the mother or wife. Furthermore, all things in heaven and earth develop and grow through the interaction of yin and yang qi. Humans are the same: parents and spouses must be harmonious and act in unison to achieve prosperity and happiness for humankind. Therefore, "Kun" must receive the original qi of "Qian" to be effective. On one hand, "Qian" can represent active, proactive behavior, while "Kun" represents complete passivity and receptivity. Thus, the symbolic meaning represented by the Kun hexagram is calmness and harmony.

Interpretation of fortune stick person

Duke Wen of Jin, of the Ji surname, the Jin lineage, named Chong'er, son of Duke Xian of Jin, was a famous statesman of the Spring and Autumn period and a ruler of the state of Jin. He reigned for nine years and, with the assistance of Zhao Cui, Hu Yan, Jia Tuo, Xian Zhen, Wei Wuzi, and Jie Zitui, became one of the Five Hegemons of the Spring and Autumn period.

Annotation

Seeking refuge in a foreign land, the Duke Xian of Jin had three sons: Shen Sheng, Chong'er, and Yi Wu. Shen Sheng was fond of medicine and not in a hurry to inherit the title. Yi Wu was less capable than Chong'er and by nature cruel and violent. To obtain the position of heir apparent, he did not hesitate to use poisonous tactics to harm Chong'er. To avoid fratricide, Chong'er resolutely went abroad to travel. Abandoning his country, he who knows first will not live long: Duke Mu of Qin escorted Chong'er back to Jin. Chong'er ascended the throne and was known as Duke Wen of Jin. After his enthronement, he held high prestige among the feudal lords. When tigers and dragons meet, they will join forces: Upon returning to his country and ascending the throne, he appointed many capable individuals, implemented new policies, and actively reformed. The strength of Jin rapidly grew. Later, he quelled the rebellion of the Zhou royal family, earning widespread praise throughout the land. Rectifying the state and restoring order: Rectifying means to set right and unite. Chong'er learned that Yi Wu ruled without principle, the laws and policies of Jin were in great disarray, and the common people lived in dire straits. Thus, he led an army to return to Jin. In the end, he eliminated his close relative out of righteousness, saved the common people, and became the hegemon of Jin.

Vernacular

Duke Wen of Jin fled his homeland to avoid a struggle for the throne, living in exile for nineteen years. With material and spiritual support from various countries, he returned to ascend the throne. He appointed many capable individuals, implemented new policies, and actively reformed the state, rapidly strengthening Jin. He corrected and supported the nation, reviving the three bonds and five constants.

Pregnancy: Sons and daughters will be noble. If the previous pregnancy was a boy, the next will be a girl. Marriage: Promises made will be fulfilled. Illness: There are disturbances, and the condition fluctuates, leading to a bad outcome. Seeking wealth: Do not act alone.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram is the second hexagram of the 64 hexagrams of the I Ching. It takes the earth as its image, representing the mother. Its nature is yielding and submissive, representing yin earth and a purely yin hexagram. It stands in opposition to the Qian hexagram, which represents purely yang, while also being interdependent with it. Yin earth is the mother, and heavenly yang is the father, promoting the natural phenomenon of all things growing. The Kun hexagram follows closely behind Qian, embodying the meaning of heaven being honored and earth being humble, and the harmony of yin and yang.
