Golden Ring Fortune Slip

Thirty-third poem: [Heavenly Mountain Dun, Bao Zi'an challenges the arena]

A thousand arrows, each remarkable.

Bruises do not come out singly.

Don't boast about your accomplishments everywhere.

Only I know the reasons for success or failure.

  • Love: One's affection is not returned. It's time to consider other options.
  • Family luck: Accumulate more virtue and good deeds for peace and tranquility. Pregnancy: Mother and child are uneasy. Be cautious.
  • Children: The children are physically weak, and there is a sign of disharmony between parents and children.
  • Circulation: Not feasible, detrimental.
  • Trading: It is advisable to hold steady; major offensive moves should be avoided.
  • Disease: The patient suffers from poor circulation in the meridians.
  • Lost item: It has fallen into the hands of others and is difficult to find.
  • Lawsuit: Truth and falsehood need not be judged; it is best to stop.
  • Business: Wait for the right moment.
  • Academics: Not ideal.
Hexagram interpretation:
"Dùn" means to escape or retreat. The Qian trigram (upper trigram) represents "heaven," and the Gen trigram (lower trigram) represents "mountain." The mountain tries to approach the "heaven," but "heaven" is higher and moves away from it. This is the meaning of "Dùn." In terms of the卦 (gua) shape: the initial and second lines are two yin lines temporarily hidden, brewing potential; the four yang lines above them want to retreat from their original positions, which is the meaning of "Dùn." On one hand, the "Qian trigram" represents the father; the "Gen trigram" represents a young person; yang lines represent gentlemen; and yin lines represent petty people. Combining these, it symbolizes an old father retreating and a young person taking over, or petty people gaining power and gentlemen retiring. At the same time, this卦 also implies the principle of the waxing and waning of yin and yang, and that what reaches its peak must decline.

Be tolerant of others.
But not indulgence.

Interpretation of fortune stick person

Bao Zian, a character in the novel "Green Peony," has no biographical record.

Annotation

A single hair suspends a thousand pounds, each displays their unique skills: displaying unique skills – showing off special talents. It has reached a critical point (as if a single hair is suspending a thousand pounds, in danger of breaking at any moment), everyone uses their special abilities and gives no ground. Who believes that defeat comes from a single branch: To defeat and injure the opponent, one must prepare well and fight to the death, sparing no effort. Do not boast everywhere in the human world: When dealing with the world, one must be humble and not brag everywhere. Success or failure is known only to oneself: When it comes to success or failure, one's inner self knows, do not deceive yourself. The effort you put in is the result you get.

Vernacular

Bao Zi'an entered the ring, and both sides used their divine powers, yielding no ground. They traded punches and kicks, in a moment of extreme danger. To injure and defeat the opponent, they spared no effort. However, in dealing with people, one must be humble and not boast everywhere. Whether or not one can defeat the opponent is already known in one's own heart.

Fortune telling by lot

Bao Zi'an entered the ring, using a defensive strategy to wear down the opponent's stamina. When the time was right, he struck decisively, throwing the opponent off the stage. This fortune tells the person to have their own opinions when doing things. With too many voices, do not casually listen to others. Otherwise, if you make mistakes, you will regret it deeply. **Overall Fortune:** Slight danger in the early stages of illness, but no fear if it's a chronic condition. **Seeking Wealth:** You can achieve it with effort. **Expected Arrival:** Will arrive by the end of the day. **Success/Fame:** Can be achieved with continued diligence. **Lost Items:** Look to the East for its recovery. **General Affairs:** Retreating is auspicious; advancing is unfavorable.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram's name is "Dun," which means to retreat. It reveals the principle that when things encounter setbacks and obstacles, one should understand the situation, temporarily retreat, and wait for an opportunity. It also warns that petty people should remain steadfast and not act rashly. The mountain is steep, seemingly reaching the heavens, but looking at the sky from the summit is no different from looking at it from the ground. Therefore, one must rest at the foot of the mountain or consider taking a detour. Furthermore, Qian (Heaven) represents the father and Gen (Mountain) represents the young son, implying the old father retreats and the young son inherits. Yang lines represent the noble person and yin lines represent the petty person, signifying that petty people are in power and noble people are in seclusion. One must be cautious of being exploited by petty people, leading to significant losses and harm.
