Hexagram interpretation:
"Cui" means to gather. The Dui trigram represents a marsh; the Kun trigram represents the earth. This signifies a marsh on the ground; the water in the marsh gathers and is stored in low-lying areas. This is the meaning of "Cui." On one hand, the Kun trigram represents the masses and obedience; the Dui trigram represents joy. Together, this signifies the masses being joyful and obedient, thus fully expressing the meaning of "gathering." At the same time, the fifth line corresponds to the position of the ruler; the fourth line corresponds to the position of the prime minister. In terms of the hexagram's structure, both are yang lines, indicating qualities of strength, brightness, talent, and virtue. Therefore, it shows the surrounding four yin lines above and below gathering around and obeying these two yang lines. Thus, this hexagram is named "Cui."

Divination Meaning

The name of this hexagram is "Cui," meaning gathering. It reveals the principle that in social life, the union of groups should be with sincerity, adhering to righteousness, and always being vigilant to prevent such unions from becoming corrupt. This is a most auspicious hexagram, symbolizing the gathering of all things and the smooth progress of all matters. It symbolizes the coming together of many people and things, from which the most essential are filtered and selected, hence the name "Cui." It also implies that sovereignty lies in one's own hands. The lake gathers on the ground, nourishing vegetation and causing all things to flourish. This extends to the meaning of excessive growth, indicating it is time for further pruning and refinement. The inner trigram, Kun, represents the earth's gentleness, and the upper trigram, Dui, represents joy. This signifies harmonious and pleasant interactions between people, which can move hearts and gather strength. However, it can also lead to excessive emotionality, requiring rectification with a rational attitude.
