It encourages us to hold loving and compassionate thoughts towards loved ones, those who have harmed us, and all sentient beings, whether connected to us or not. By performing repentance, we can represent all beings who cannot attend the Dharma assembly, praying for the compassionate protection of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, to bathe in Buddha's light, and to be free from suffering and attain happiness.

🔸 **Arouse Bodhicitta:** Extending compassion to enemies or unacquainted individuals is not easy! Therefore, the second volume of "Emperor Liang's Repentance," the "Chapter on Arousing Bodhicitta," clearly teaches us to generate a steadfast bodhicitta, unshakeable like a diamond. Performing good deeds without bodhicitta is like plowing a field without sowing seeds – nothing will sprout. Bodhicitta is the seed of Buddhahood, which is why the repentance text continuously emphasizes the importance of awakening this intention.

🔸 **Repent and Erase Negative Karma:** Following the arousal of bodhicitta, the next crucial step is to repent and erase negative karma. The repentance begins by pointing out all the unwholesome thoughts and actions within our hearts. It then cites examples of karma and its causes and effects from various sutras and treatises, demonstrating that every suffering originates from small negative thoughts. This proves the necessity of performing repentance. Through sincere repentance, we can cleanse our body and mind, leading to noticeable positive changes in our lives.

🔸 **Cultivate Gratitude:** The true key after sincere repentance is "ceasing from repeated mistakes." This requires starting with cultivating a mind of faith and gratitude, and to repay the Buddha's kindness towards the Three Jewels (Buddha, Dharma, Sangha). It involves willingly emulating the good deeds of the Three Jewels to help all sentient beings. The later volumes of the repentance ritual are dedicated to honoring the Buddha on behalf of all beings, seeking blessings and purifying karma, using the merit gained from practice to repay the kindness of the Buddha, parents, and all sentient beings.

[22

post-5700","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-highlights
["GET
