Hexagram interpretation:
The "Ding" is a three-legged, two-handled vessel used for cooking food during feasts and sacrifices. In terms of its trigram form: the lower "yin" line represents its legs; the second, third, and fourth lines resemble its waist and belly; the fifth "yin" line represents the left and right ears; and the topmost (supreme) "yang" line is equivalent to the handle, forming the overall shape of the ding. On one hand, the Li trigram (upper trigram) represents fire; the Xun trigram (lower trigram) represents wood. Combined, this symbolizes wood burning in fire to cook food. Therefore, it is named the "Ding" hexagram.

Divination Meaning

This hexagram, "Ding" (鼎), means a tripod cauldron. Its main theme is twofold. On one hand, from the perspective of a "cooking utensil," it elucidates the meaning of nourishment through harmonizing food. More importantly, from the perspective of "discarding the old and establishing the new," it reveals how to harmonize various forces and how to manage affairs and exercise authority during times of reform. It symbolizes stability with its three legs and the movement of three people together. It also represents an incense burner for worshiping gods or Buddha. It is a generally auspicious sign. For career and investment, partnering with others is recommended, and matters can develop steadily. However, there is a slight inauspicious sign for relationships and marriage, with a high probability of a love triangle or infidelity. Nevertheless, people will rationally seek solutions. The interaction of Xun (巽) wood with Li (離) fire symbolizes cooking and boiling. The five yin lines represent the two handles, the top yang line represents the lid, the middle three lines represent the body of the cauldron, and the bottom yin line represents the legs. The shape resembles a cauldron, hence the name. Obtaining this hexagram signifies evil being replaced by righteousness and the correction of mistakes. If this opportune moment is seized, progress can be made daily, and one's career will be promising. Therefore, procrastination and hesitation in all matters should be avoided.
This situation involves arguments or disputes, bringing potential conflict in your home, family, or with documents. It's best to mediate through peaceful persuasion; otherwise, you risk legal trouble. Additionally, fire burning wood signifies loss, so be cautious of fires damaging property or financial harm due to acting as a guarantor for someone.
